Every child deserves a Christmas. Sadly, not all families can provide the thing children most eagerly await — a visit from Santa and a gift left under the tree. You can give them that gift with a donation to Toys for Tots.
Toys for Tots is a non-profit organization run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve. There are more than 800 chapters across the nation. The local Toys for Tots is supported by Marine Corps League Eastex Detachment #779. They have been supplying new, unwrapped toys to children in the Montgomery area since 1999.
The objective of the program is to help less fortunate children experience the joy of Christmas as well as to unite all members of the local community through a common cause. The hope is that children receiving the toys will grow into responsible, productive and patriotic citizens.
The Toys for Tots drive begins in October and lasts through December culminating in the delivery of thousands of toys to thousands of local children. Last year, the local Toys for Tots distributed 30,716 toys to 8,213 children.
Woodforest is proud to be a drop-off location for these special gifts through The Giving Tree initiative. From Nov. 1 to Dec. 17, we are collecting donations for seven different charities. The Toys for Tots donation period ends a little earlier on Dec. 10.
You can drop off your donation at The Giving Tree that has sprouted at The Palm, 251 Central Pine Street in Woodforest. Other charities you can help include Operation Pets Alive, Journey Home, Montgomery County Women’s Shelter, Meals on Wheels Montgomery County, Patriots of Texas and Wrapped in Warmth (Community Assistance Center).
Toys for Tots accepts toys for ages 12 and under. The non-profit does not publish a list of toys to donate because such a list would limit the selection of toys to distribute. Instead, organizers ask that you consider what you might buy for your own child or relative and donate that. Toys should be new and unwrapped. Toys for Tots does not accept or distribute gifts of food or realistic looking weapons.
If you don’t have time to shop, you can still help by making a donation online.
Give the gift of Christmas and a smile to a deserving child this year by taking part in The Giving Tree.
