Celebrating 10 Years

Journey Home Cares for Young Mothers

December 06, 2021

Pregnancy should be a time of joy but for many young women, an unplanned pregnancy can be a source of stress and financial instability. Fortunately, there is a place they can turn to — Journey Home.

Founded by Billie Beasley in 2019, Journey Home is the only maternity home in Montgomery County. It is a Christ-centered nonprofit that encourages and empowers women by providing them with a comfortable family environment where they can learn life skills. Journey Home also works with other agencies to provide pregnant mothers with birthing classes, educational classes and opportunities to become independent and successful.

Primarily focused on women ages 18 to 24, Journey Home also helps older pregnant women who are homeless or leaving an abusive situation. It is one of the few programs that allows women to bring a child under the age of six with them.

The non-profit receives referrals from adoption agencies, pregnancy care centers, women shelters and hotlines. The program gives hope to young mothers that do not wish to terminate their pregnancies and the skills they need to raise them successfully.

Journey Homes is in need of volunteers and donations of maternity nightgowns for the hospital, nursing bras, new undergarments, maternity clothes, new pillows, gas and fast-food gift cards, twin sheets and gift baskets for the new mothers. For the new little ones, they need infant car seats, diapers, nose aspirators, blankets and baby clothes.

You can donate these items through Woodforest’s The Giving Tree initiative. From now to Dec. 17, we are collecting donations for seven different charities including Journey Home. Simply look at the list of requested items, purchase one or more, and drop off your donation at The Giving Tree that has sprouted at The Palm Information Center, 251 Central Pine Street in Woodforest. Other charities you can help include Toys for Tots, Montgomery County Women’s Shelter, Operation Pets Alive, Meals on Wheels Montgomery County, Patriots of Texas and Wrapped in Warmth.

To provide even more assistance for these worthy causes, for every box filled Woodforest will donate $100 to that charity.

Help mothers in need care for their babies with a donation today.
